The galaxy series has always been my favourite ever.
I grew up with Galaxy, and booted up my WiiU to play both games and fully completed them (Yes even The Perfect Run)
Brought back so many memories

The first game I ever got was Mario Galaxy 2, followed by the original. My whole life I’ve struggled with explaining how I felt. But for about 2 hours a day, I’d sit down in front of my Wii, and the beautiful atmosphere and story of these 2 games would help me connect with myself more than anything else could. This wonderful game has created memories that will last a lifetime.

long jump in galaxy is insane for how l o n g you fly with the gravity around the planets. mario literally makes a gravity turn and goes into orbit
there is also a secret move i didn't know about until beating the game, which is to spin and ground pound at the same time, which give you a tiny homing effect with a little animation and sound

i play video games every single day and I play every single genera under the sun. "what is your favorite video game" is such a massive question and hard for many to answer. to me its easy its Super Mario Galaxy... without a single doubt in my mind. From the crazy trippy worlds to the PERFECT live band music to the sad open nostalgic vibe its literally a perfect game

Mario can dive into the water, did you know that? If you get to the edge of a cliff over a large body of water, when you're close enough to the edge Mario will start looking directly down into the water. Press A and he'll literally perform an Olympic dive into the water! How cool is that?

Sup Mr Choc. To answer your question, taking fire damage is used a ton in any% speed runs in the game. The most notable would be in freezflame galaxy second star where you skip the whole level basically by taking damage to the lava. Definitely look it up, it’s worth a watch.

Watched the entire thing from beginning to end. Probably my favorite Mario game ever (Galaxy 2 is right there with it.). Can’t believe it’s been 16 years, but it’s aged BEAUTIFULLY. Can’t wait for the Galaxy 2 run!

I remember playing Super Mario Galaxy when I was young and ever since it came to the switch I'm absolutely glad I got the chance to take it with me anywhere I go, of course I got it digitally before it got removed but you can still buy it physically at least.

16:35 this is not a glitch, but an intended feature of many 3d (and a good handful of 2d) platformers. it makes tight jumps more lenient by giving a window of a few frames after walking off a ledge before you actually lose ground detection, and is referred to as coyote time for the exact reason you think it is. to my knowledge the oldest instance of this was in super mario 64, introduced with the notion of "if you think you will make the jump, then you will" and has since become a staple of satisfying platformer physics.
also luigi always had ice physics from the moment there was anything different about him. he jumps higher and has a higher top speed, but he takes longer to speed up and slow down.
