How to Restore Previous Versions of the Registry in Windows 7

If you want to manually restore a specific section of the registry from a previous System Restore snapshot, or access some specific keys from an older version of the registry, you can do so by getting access to those files and then exporting sections from them. Here's how to do it in Windows 7 or Vista.

Since Windows 7 and Vista utilize Shadow Copy, otherwise known as Volume Snapshot Service, to power the "Previous Versions" feature, there are snapshots of important files taken over time, including registry hives, so we can access the older versions of registry files this way without having to do a full System Restore.

I have no previous versions? Any other way? A registry cleaner damaged several registry items and I can't seem to fix it this way or with "sfc/scannow" I have a few old registry backups from CCleaner when I first downloaded it but I cant seem to merge them.

Is it possible to have some help? I've literally messed up so bad. I don't even know is this is the right video, that's how stuck I am. I had windows ultimate. Then I was taking harddrives out and adding new ones then popped up saying "this isn't genuine" so I bought windows 7 premium as couldn't afford the other again. I've lost everything. I was wondering if I can revert back to what I had and then just get the key? I'm really stuck and watching this video made me more confused.

Hi Brian, the files on my documents seem to have rearranged themselves somehow with new names and my file menu won't work. I'm also in some confusion here with your instructions. I just clicked config and the files aren't locked as yours are. Do I continue or might that be a problem?

hi was wondering if i wanted to back up a windows.old folder wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows then go and reinstall the windows.old file 1. is that possible and 2. what happens if i do not have any previous versions of the registery? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks :)

I have just been going through a lot of post but my problem is not solved yet. i copied some files into my video fold and soon after it turned the folder icon to the one that requires to roll back to previous version, i have tried the right click properties thing but unfortunately the is no previous version to roll back to. My data is still there but cant open the bloody folder. HEEEELLLLPPPP

Hi bryan! many thanks first for the tutorial i just need your help and advice i have an issue with my "regedit! and i can't open it at all no matter how i tried but i can't open it ! when ever i tried to open windows comes up with notice "C\windows\regedit .exe is not a windows32 application" but i have windows 7 x 64 home premium i don't use x32 i can't understand what it means, your help will be highly apreciated!!
