Red car turned with the technicality that another driver was turning at the same time PLUS it didn’t impede traffic BUT SHE IS ELIGIBLE FOR A CITATION FOR NOT STOPPING

I would much rather someone use that as a left turn lane, seems safer than blocking the road while waiting to turn.

Just had a conversation with a Dupty Sheriff while doing research. She said there's the letter of the law then there is the spirit of the law. I gave a scenario, she said well it's not likely we would give a citation, sure I believe her..So in other words they control us. They love double yellow lines. Policing for profit.

Right. You can't use it as a turn lane OR travel in it. It's neither none.

But it begs the question, doesn't it: Why, pray tell, are they marking it way at all? I 'spect that they do it earlier in the roadway because the roadway is widening but that space is not yet wide enough for a fully developed, bona fide turn lane. They don't want to stripe it too early because then people will try to use it as a turn lane, meanwhile others are trying to use the regular, full lane for regular travel and--OOPS, this roadway ain't wide enough for the three of us! But it does look like it's plenty wide enough before that point and they could stripe it earlier.

By the way, if the highway department can tell you to stop your vehicle, then some rando can also tell you to stop eating animals! I need to get some of those stickers! :-)
