I was an armourer in the RCAF from 1981-2016 and worked on CF-18's.
The M61A1 20mm cannon is a wonderful piece of equipment to work on and load. Our aircraft have the M61 mounted on top of an AHS, (ammunition handling system). The AHS is a self contained unit that holds 570 rounds of ammo and there is no waste exiting the aircraft when the gun is fired, all of the shell casings stay in the AHS. Another great thing about it is that you download and upload the gun all at the same time, instead of downloading and then uploading.
Also the gun package (gun and AHS), is changed all together in one piece no having to remove the muzzle clamp, center clamp, barrels one at a time etc.

I was on a road trip back in 2000. Driving on some empty highway in Nevada, i see a little speck way out in front of me. As it got bigger, i yelled at my wife to look (she was sleeping of course). The F-16 was flying parallel to the highway, and blew by, off to my left, looked to be about 500ft off the ground. It happened so fast, and I'll never forget the sound and feel of the jet going by. This video reminds me of that same event... it's like it came out of nowhere.

I actually searched for this to show my wife. In 1990-1992 I was in the Dutch airforce and on one occasion we went to the 'Vlieland' airforce shooting range. That day some English Tornado's and some Dutch F-16's were doing target practice on that range. We were in a similar tower just next to the shooting range and I heard these bizarre sounds for the first time. It stuck in my mind for sure
