Tribute concert dedicated to the memory of flutist Urs Rüttimann, held at the Athens Conservatory.
Few are the people who, in their most creative years, have had the good fortune to walk the way under the guidance of someone like Urs Rüttimann.
For us, his students, the void has been very hard to fill after his passing. We have lost not only our teacher but also a person who, for the most part of our lives, represented the epitome of good taste, dignity, artistic excellence, and overall humanitarian approach to the world.
His remarkable career in Greece spanned more than four decades; throughout those years Urs Rüttimann was tirelessly active in promoting music, whether as principal flautist in the Athens State Orchestra and the National Radio Symphony Orchestra or as a professor of flute at the Athens Conservatory of Music. He left a rich legacy which we felt it our duty to pay tribute to.
In loving memory of our late teacher, we have joined together to establish a flute competition bearing his name. This way we hope to encourage the younger generations of flute players, while giving the general public the opportunity to become better acquainted with Urs Rüttimann's contribution to the cultural life of our country, and to appreciate the charisma of his personality.
