What is Transformers G1? Transformers G1, or Generation One, refers to the first series of Transformers toys released by Hasbro, based on the animated series. Over time, G1 began to be used to describe the original Transformers comic and animated series, which first aired in 1984. Kids from the '90s who watched TV likely remember seeing this cartoon as a child. This G1 version has been realized in the latest live-action Transformers films. So, if you notice that designs are starting to look different, like Bumblebee becoming smaller or Optimus Prime looking more blocky, it's because they are inspired by the original G1 Transformers designs.
