Bob Dancer is the real deal. Few people make a living playing video poker, but he is one of them. Bob also acknowledges that few players can play with 100% accuracy. Given today's negative pay tables, the number of profitable opportunities is few and far between. Mathematical odds are based on millions of hands. The results on the machine while you are playing it can vary. This can make for huge financial swings. Keep your day job!

The honesty is real here, most places dont have a lot of casinos, they dont have good paytables because of lack of competition. Only way to change it is to add competition.

Let's do some math. A full-time employee works five days a week, 50 weeks a year (with a two-week vacation). That's 250 days a year. To win $100, 000, one merely needs to win $400 every session, 250 sessions a year. No one is going to do that playing quarters or even dollars. Dancer acknowledges this at the end of the video, but being a professional video poker player has to be one of the hardest "easy" jobs in the world.

Has Bob retired or is he still active? I used to enjoy reading his articles on the Gambling with an Edge website but a new one hasn't been published there in almost a year. The last one I see there is from Sept 26 of last year. I know he stopped doing the GWAE podcasts with Richard Munchkin around that time. I listened to their last one and it was sad to see it end. So I know this interview is a few years old.
Bob is the reason I first got interested in video poker when I saw a documentary about him around 2006. I had a really good run on full pay 9/6 Jacks or Better with a progressive royal for several years until the machines got too old to maintain and got taken out. And that was before the casinos thought to give only 1/2 player points on video poker so between that and the progressive royal, it was definitely a positive advantage play. You just don't see those anymore, at least here in Wisconsin. Maybe in Nevada? I hope Bob is still alive and well and enjoying his retirement.

Fact: The video poker machines at Choctaw in OK are terrible. Sure I have won there but more often have lost my ass. They are so bad and the pay tables suck. Better casinos out there. They feel rigged and too tight!

Video Poker is rigged. The programmers know when you get a pair you’re going to hold the pair and draw again get nothing. It’s like Marriage. Your best bet is to not do it all together.
