I was really looking forward to #qala starring #triptidimri in the lead role and that has released on #netflixindia . The film starring #babilkhan and #swastikamukherjee is a reminder that inventive storytelling from #bollywood is still alive! This was such a beautiful and heart aching story told by #anvitadutt . I hope you like the Qala Movie Review & Analysis

Tripti dimri deserves to be a leading actress who's booked and busy she's just too good with her script choices and her acting

What I totally love about this film is that it does not uses exploits the actress to show sexual abuse. The scene where Qala wants a second chance to record Ghodey pe sawar, we are made aware of the disgust and helplessness Qala feels after gratifying the producer, but we are not forced to watch her get abused. A lot of movies walk us through such scenes in slow motion shots and exaggerated screams and calls for cry and we know how much the villain is enjoying it. But Anvita dutt simply just cuts the chase and lets us know that victim hated it. I loved the execution soooo much

Remember the scene when Babil Khan holds Tripti outside their house in snow and a drone shot shows the puzzle structure exactly the same from which Tripti uses the mercury.

Still don't understand how the songs of this movie do not have any views. Where are those people banishing remakes and asking bollywood to create original music.

This movie made me cry. Qala's behaviour around her mother was a flashback for me. The moment she'd go "sorry mama" was so heartbreaking. The mother was horrible, abusive. All I could think was of the pain qala felt while her mother abandoned her, the strong sense of approval from her mother was so strong. The trauma that she had manifested in her adulthood too. I don't think people even realise that how much an abusive childhood can affect someone, I wish Qala had some love. I don't agree with some comments saying Jagan stole everything, the mother was the main villain. She was the abuser, the boy sang for himself, it was everything for him. The mother was the one who abandoned her own daughter.

I just finished watching this movie. I just wish I could have watched this on the big screen. Such aesthetical brilliance deserved larger platform. Even the grey saree Qala wore (which is the color of mercury) had so much of symbolism. Truly one of the best female performances I have seen this year after Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi.

Can we all agree that Amit trivedi has delivered each and every time and also is so versatile

The scene where Tripti Dimri says "I'm your daughter, apko pyaar hona chahiye mujhse, chahe main jaisi bhi hoon, par nahi hain."

That entire sequence and she saying "Sorry Mama" right after it is one of the most heartbreaking and breakthrough scene. 💔

ANVITA DUTT IF YOU ARE READING THIS. I'm not very fond of the 'fan culture'. You are one of the very few artists that I immense respect for. You really have very eccentric vision. It engulfs and transcends the viewer into that mystical world. Very few makers accurately portray the dark realities of a woman's life with such sincere intention. Bulbul( Specially the first half) was just as magical and hard hitting. Waiting for more cinematic gems. Keep making masterpieces 😊❤️

She reads Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was such a great easter egg and the party dance shows her turning into the Black Swan! My the attention to detail is amazing.

Finished watching it 5 mins ago. I am bawling my eyes off. This hits too close to anyone who has ever felt like they have failed someone, or has lacked someone who truely, unconditionally loved them. Beautiful symbolism, heart aching but truely a privelege to watch.

Finally Indian cinema has found its groove! A well acted movie, storyline tackling mental issues, self worth! Music brilliant! Quite sad how perfection destroys one’s life! Characters well developed, Qala role brilliant, talent exposed. Highly recommend like Bulbul. PS1, Kantara what a great direction cinema is heading. Foreign imitation must cease. 👌🏽

Tripti has been my favourite actress right from Laila Majnu. And I honestly became a fan of her right after I watched Bulbul. Predicted it before that she would do her best here too! Currently one of the few actors who can act and not an eye candy

I checked around 50 comments in the section and noticed that no one noticed the 'easter egg' in 90% of the scenes including a major one.
Whenever Qala is on screen, there is always a dragonfly 🪰 or some sort of moth shown, either on her or around her.
Like her saree embroidery, her earrings, the appearance of lamps, her brooch.
If you notice Urmila gives Jagan a pretty looking moth made of either diamonds or something precious, which he leaves in Qala's cupboard before committing suicide, like 'you take it since you've been desperate for it'.

Major one : When people mourn for Jagan, there is a fly/moth crawling on his face that in next scene Qala tries to kill out of horror.

After his death she has a black moth/raven brooch on her

Also both her house and studio have gargoyle stautues which depicts toxicity in her environment, especially depicted when music director gets nasty favours done on the balcony.

If noticed carefully, while talking to jagan by the river behind Qala is a shadow of horse chariots carousel while talking about its her dream too to get successful and get a golden vinyl, and later after his death there is a shadow of a girl running pretty fast, as if trying to escape

Apart from this, when a person tries to take jagans body off the tree, Qala has to hold the body from bottom to prevent it from falling 'plop', but rather both the body and Qala fall depicting her burying under the weight of his death.

And as said initially in the film, she's the Survivor, this Survivor took all the nutrition thus killing the sibling . Similarly she did her best to survive by 'just' taking away Jagan's voice, which was his source of life.
For her it was her unintentionally naive 'basic nature '. To her she was just trying to breath under toxicity.

I would like to highly appreciate the mesmerisingly beautiful music score which is worth playing on a Vinyl record

OTT platforms giving chances to other filmmakers and experimenters is so nice to watch. They know that "If the movie is worth it, the audience will love it"

I think the movie touches on far too many ideas that continue to shape our society. Right from a child seeking validation to just wanting to be loved the way she is, showing how our society pushes us to become successful to deserve love, to her learning from her mother about attractive opportunities the unethical/exploitative way, to mental health. The film indeed tied so many themes together without making it feel too much. A true masterpiece. I can still hear the words 'Aapko mujhe pyaar karna chahiye, main jaisi bhi hoo'.

First Monica o my darling and now Qala, released on OTT. It's sad to see good films being released on streaming platforms when they deserve a theater release. But again, I wouldn't want good films to fall victim to boycott culture, run by ppl who will ban any film for no particular reason

Now, this is where nepotism feels real..Tripti being such a good actress has her films releasing on OTT which is off course coz these are artsy films..But she should be getting the opportunities which sara, jhanvi, ananya nd all r getting..she would probably have to work half her age to get some credible roles in those big films..

I think expectations should be kept high from the movie specially which amit trivedi and varun grover chooses more than the actor as they always selects the best to spend their talent and time on✔️💯

Both of the Laila majnu lead pair- Avinash Tiwary and Tripti dimri not got the deserved appreciation and recognition. After release of Khakee the Bihar chapter and qala, I guess these brilliant actors get what they deserve. These two aptly tell the difference between ‘stars’ featured in koffee and real ‘actors’, who are in persuit of excellence irrespective of results.
