Yeah but you forget that teachers and lecturers don’t wait.

In university I ended up asking if professors could send me slides of the lecture, the easiest way to explain it for me was "I dont pay attention to what your saying because I'm to focused on writing down what you're saying, and then I have no idea what's going on." I had no other way to explain it🤷‍♀️

I’ve never been able to explain to others what it’s like being dyslexic. Her example is spot on. Allowing someone to experience it first hand

I was barely able to take notes and could not substitute the characters at all in the exercise. I don't have dyslexia, but I could not keep up.

My brother is dyslexic and I can confirm that his writing is quite similar. Our mother got him tutoring to get extra help/practice on writing and spelling. When writing a sentence there would always be a random capitalized letter in the mid

Shocking! I do not have dyslexia. I COULD NOT keep up with listening, thinking, writing while inserting the “correct letter exchange”! God bless you my sweet Grandson and all dyslexic’s. While trying this exercise for yourself, please remember YOU are the dyslectic person. The dyslectic YOU are the one experiencing this EVERY MOMENT of reading, writing, listening .... trying to comprehend a simple word takes many steps for each word. Then to take that “word” and translate it into a sentence of MULTIPLE “words”. As my daughter explains, these kids are exhausted because their brains are doing quadruple the mental work. Plus emotionally worrying if they got it right or wrong. Be Kind!

YES!! This is EXACTLY what it is like! Except the lecturers don’t pause for you to catch up!!!

dyslexia to me feels as if your slowly falling off a cliff and every time you reach for something to grab on to you slip and keep falling

I have a note-taker for each class because I can't keep up and listen to everything at the same time. I'm constantly looking back up at whatever the teacher has for us to copy because I can't remember more than 2-3 words and write them down at the same time. Basically, I look up from my notes more frequently then the girl in the video had to in order to get the notes down. Also I was diagnosed with dyslexia in 3rd grade.

Thank you so much for this video. My son was recently diagnosed and this example really helped me to understand the frustration and exhaustion he must be enduring. We are at the very beginning of our journey to get him the support he needs. I will keep this video saved to share with others in his life that don't quite understand dyslexia.

I was wondering if any other dyslexics experiences this: I routinely don't enjoy new music the first time I hear it. But the second time I do. I read this is related to dyslexia in a round about way. From the book "this is your brain on music" the author explains that the timing center of the brain allows one to get a sense of pleasure from anticipating the completion of patterns in rhythms and melodies even if one has never heard them before. In another part of the book, he says that dyslexia is (at least in part) a defect in this timing center of the brain. Although he never put the 2 thoughts together, it goes to follow that having dyslexia might preclude one from being able to enjoy unfamiliar music. So I wonder if other dyslectics like me might have the same difficulty. I have experienced this all my life but only became aware of it after reading the book.
