Pretty standard design for a low end battery backup. That battery sure is small though. My main APC UPS in my rack basically uses 8 of those batteries.

The "USB" port is really an RS232 serial port that is powered by the host computer. 12Vdc.
The other ports are RS485.

The coil is a Common mode choke for RFI blocking in and out.
