Yeah ok whatever, Trump should push for term limits for all these clowns, that's the better strategy.

no taxes on social security? It won't happen because congress won't approve it.

Angie Craig, Democrat US Representative from Minnesota, has introduced a bill to discontinue taxation of SS benefits. It's not just Trump. It's bi-partisan. Although, I'm pretty sure Angie was way ahead of Trump on this issue.

I think the estimate of $1.6 - $1.8 trillion over 10 years is because they know many more people will become subject to the tax since the cap is not inflation indexed.

Middle income person here with a pension in addition to SS. Approximately 58% of my SS will be taxed this year 2024. I don't mind being taxed on that. I do mind how they spend the money. Congress and President.

Well at least three commentaries here, and an article on market watch say that cutter the tax on SS payments will reduce the solvency of SS. Can someone please explain the mechanism by which money gets from my 1040 (yes, I am retired) to the SS trust fund. I thought that you (and your employer) paid into the trust fund on EARNED income only. What I'm I missing here?

Try taxing everyone equally rich and poor.

Higher is not the same as high just as higher income is not the same as high income. Buying votes is good political strategy? That is the root of our National Debt problem. Go ahead and remove the SS income tax which is currently going back into the SS trust fund. That way, everyone can feel benefit cuts sooner. Tough break for lower income beneficiaries. Brilliant? Not in my opinion. The reality is POTUS can’t do these things alone…even though the current POTUS attempts to buy votes by promising forgiveness of student loans. Disgusted with both parties and supporting RFK Jr..

I just don’t think you’re being completely honest with all the implications of doing this across the board to all income levels that pull SS. You honestly saying that congressional Republicans don’t want to end SS?

Congress has to make a bill and pass it into law. I wouldn't get excited about it. Trump can't wave his hand and make it happen. I do agree the gov't shouldn't tax SS. Its already been taxed.

Imagine how much more successful the Republican Party would be if they actually did something for their voters.

The thresholds in place have never risen for inflation because their idea at the time was to eventually have EVERYONE collecting get taxed on their benefit.

Don't they know that if they don't tax SS retirees, those same retirees will spend that extra money on goods and services and pay taxes THAT way Instead. The government still gets their money and the retirees get to enjoy it more or use it for real necessities.
