Lighting can be a challenge to consider purchasing because there are so many different variations and options out there! Don’t let that deter you from creating your dream film set or prevent you from tackling some awesome client gigs. Here are the top 5 things that I consider when purchasing lights!

Top 5 Lighting Features to Consider:
1. CRI
2. Weight & Size
3. Bi-Color?
4. Diffusion
5. Barn Doors
6. Bonuses - Cases & RGB

Purchasing lighting for your YouTube studio, smaller film sets, or your client work, can vary tremendously based on your needs. If you’re like me and do all of the above, you might consider lighting that is universally appealing to any situation you encounter. The biggest factor with all lighting for me is whether I can get the power output I need and if I can easily set them up based on mobility and size.

I encourage everyone to use lighting and to make their videos as dynamic and unique as possible. There’s an endless amount of possibilities you can achieve with lighting and I’m looking forward to sharing more lighting techniques with everyone soon!

This is why I committed team CHIAROSCURO previously. The play with & with the absence of light is so important. Like that natural light test footage when you where capturing those fire dancers. Before this video I was unclear what I needed to consider in shopping for lighting. Thanks Kitty!

Niice.

One comment on the diffusion though - The larger of a diffusion sheet you're able to use, the more diffuse the light will be.

(Just noticing in your example it was more of a light cut than significant diffusion)

Great video! You can always know more about lighting. The first lights I had were just three under-cabinet glued together😂 great video though of course and I'll keep this in mind when I want to expand my family of gear!👌👍☺

Thanks, this is bomb. A friend just kicked me her old lights - she upgraded - so gonna test them out for my new channel. If I don't like them and need to upgrade, I'll check your other lighting tips. 👊

Extra tip: "Blackwrap" is great for when light is spilling out between the barn doors. It's basically just a black version of tin/alum foil that you can reuse!

Great tips! Can you recommend any light stands? Like the one @0:56? Been looking for something sturdy, travel friendly and with 7+ feet reach if that combo exists 😅
