A 1883 morgan dollar today is worth roughly $20. If i were paid with the same money today at today's inflation I would be making $385/ hr. So even though I make more today my purchasing power is actually lower than in 1883.

Your figures are off. My grandparents built their house on 100 a week in the 60s. The minimum hourly wage in 1945 was 40 cents. Your grand father was a lazy bastard if he was only making a dollar a day in the 40s or 50s. But you are correct that the dollar isn't worth as much as it used to be. Inflation sucks
