At the end of my long deployment overseas it was time to finally come home. Tradition was that each Marine choose two songs to be played (hopefully) over the Freedom Bird’s aircraft PA system. About an hour out from landing only three of us were still in the rows; one of the flight attendants came by and said “are you ready to be home?” I said “you bet...“ Before I could finish my sentence she pointed towards the closest speak and the Lone Trumpeter began their solo. It was chilling and overwhelming at the same time. She was a UGA graduate, she explained. I had chosen “Glory to Ole Georgia” as one of my songs. When we circled for final approach at Hartsfield with the song playing I knew I was finally home. Thank God and Larry Munson.
