Uh... The fluid reservoir is in the bottom. When you flip it upside down, you move all the fluid out of the reservoir. Depending on orientation, it will work on j it's side, orientation depending on where the inlet from reservoir into the cylinder is...

That's a dumb question. The only reason why is because the hydraulic fluid pickup is at the bottom of the unit.

Not always true, they make special bottle jacks that can be used in any position, I know as I have one for work that I bought specifically for the option to use it in different positions.
