Biography
Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger is an Austrian-American actor, businessman, and former professional bodybuilder. He was born on July 30, 1947 in Thal, Styria, Austria. Schwarzenegger began bodybuilding at a young age, and quickly became a dominant force in the sport. He won the Mr. Universe title at the age of 20, and went on to win the Mr. Olympia title a record seven times.
In the 1970s, Schwarzenegger transitioned into acting, appearing in a number of action and science fiction films, such as "Hercules in New York" (1970), "The Long Goodbye" (1973), "Stay Hungry" (1976), "Pumping Iron" (1977), and "Conan the Barbarian" (1982). He also appeared in the sequel "Conan the Destroyer" (1984) and "The Terminator" (1984) which is considered one of his most iconic roles.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Schwarzenegger continued to star in a number of successful films, including "Twins" (1988), "Total Recall" (1990), "Kindergarten Cop" (1990), "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (1991), "True Lies" (1994), and "Eraser" (1996). He also returned to the Terminator franchise in "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" (2003), "Terminator Salvation" (2009) and "Terminator Genisys" (2015).
In addition to his acting career, Schwarzenegger is also a successful businessman. He has invested in a number of companies, including a fitness equipment company, a real estate company, and a restaurant chain. He has also been involved in various philanthropic efforts, including promoting after-school programs for children and environmental conservation.
In 2003, Schwarzenegger was elected as the Governor of California, and served two terms in office until 2011. He became the first person in history to be elected Governor of California as a recall replacement of Governor Gray Davis.
Throughout his career, Schwarzenegger has been honored with many awards and accolades, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Kennedy Center Honors, and the Presidential Citizens Medal.
