Umpire Bucknor's Mistake That Changed Cricket Forever

In 1992, the United Cricket Board of South Africa announced that - for the first time in Test Cricket history - TV replays will be available to use for run out and stumping decisions. Many people, including umpire Steve Bucknor, were against the use of technology in cricket, but then something happened on the field during the second Test that changed his mind overnight.

I remember that game well. The South Africn batsmen were struggling against a new Indian spinner. A commentator, can't remember if it was Geoff Boycott or Bumble Lloyd made a comment that it was the worst spinner they had seen play for india. No turn, no flight. Anil Kumble went on to be one of greatest.

Steve was one of the finest umpires and a nice person. Publicly admitting his mistake only adds to the respect he has in cricket world.

Bucknor was blind and here he was not even in a position to judge the run out. He made other horrendous decisions even after this incident.
