Story of Gerda Weissmann Klein, Why she took No bath for three years.

The Nazis imprisoned her for three years in several camps. In late January of 1945, Gerda and 4,000 other Jewish women were forced to embark on a 350-mile death march to evade the advances of the Allied armies.

Gerda was among only 120 women alive at the beginning of May in 1945. The rest—including several of her childhood friends—had died from exhaustion, starvation, random executions, and exposure to the elements.

When US Marines came to her aid, Gerda was just one day away from turning 21. Gerda weighed a mere 68 pounds about 30.84 kg, her clothes ragged and swarming with lice, and her hair was almost completely white. It had been three years since she had a bath.
