Potting Cymbidium Orchid in Seramis

Here is an orchid I really wanted to have, an Oriental Cymbidium! This is Cymbidium ensifolium 'Hung long Guan" and we will attempt to grow in in seramis!
▼▼▼More info bellow!▼▼▼

So a clay potting medium doesn't sound all that off for this one, particularly as seramis stays moist and cool, provides good air pockets for the thick roots and, combined with a clay pot, offers both moisture and ventilation.

I am applying the same potting method and same routine and hope the flower spike will keep on growing, this one should be very fragrant! if there will be no flowers this year that's ok, just look at those variegated leaves! a stunning plant indeed :D

I purchased several of these not chinese in type. They were all root bound so that it was hard to even get the pot off. I was told by the conservatory I purchased them from to repot them. So I got organic bark, repotted, watered in shower every other week. The leaves began to turn brown, crunchy and fall off. I quit watering because the research I have found suggested they were over watered. The leaves and bulbs continued to shrivel and leaves fall off to the point there were none and just a couple bulbs left that are still green. I have lots of other orchid species and just dont know what has happened to these. Any ideas? They were in the proper light..

Hi, Danni. This is Tony again. You don't need to use an Asian cymbidium pot for this plant. Your pot is totally fine and I know your plant is going to be very happy with it. I know many people like the shape and style of an Asian cymbidium pot and how well it goes with an Asian Cymbidium. Honestly, I think the overall health of an orchid is way more important than the decoration that goes with the plant. I tried many different pots before (glazed Japanese pots, glazed Korean pot, non glazed pot, purple sand pot, plastic pot and included the one that u use now). My experience told me that non glazed pots are better than the glazed ones because the non glazed pots can promote air circulation. Also, you don't need to worry about the roots that stick on the inner surface of the pot, because the roots of Asian cymbidiums are not very sticky like other cymbidiums. I don't recommend people to use fertilizer for the first year because you need to give your plant a break in order to reestablish in your new environment.

Everything is good if is better for your plants, it's alright, with all my respect not offend you, but some orchids are terrestrial and this's need pat of the soil, sand, and bark? I'm I bought one and was planted by the mixed soil, well just I mention that because it's well and health, growing up, I'm see many plants like cimbidiums, or oncidium, and epidendrums in organic soil mixed and are beautiful and healthy.thanks for your comment, for your time, and I like your videos and tutorials are very interesting. I hope that this plant growth and you make updates. Regards sincerely Lidia from San Diego.

Danny, sorry to let you down, but I have planted two cymbidiums in seramis for 2 months now, and it doesn't work. They don't grow at all. But I don't say anything, maybe you will be succesful at growing cymbidiums in seramis, but for me it is not working at all. . . Hope yours will do well in your care :)

Hi Dani, I made an account on your website but I can't figure out how to post something. But I have what I think is a very young Cymbidium Koushu Fire. I would like to send you a picture if possible. It has short roots and the pseudo bulb is squishy but in a dry way if that makes sense. I feel like it looks the same whether I water it or not. I live in North Florida, USA. I've had it outside since late summer when I first bought it. It's now getting colder but hasn't reached freezing temperatures.

Hi, Danni. This is Tony again. It is going to take some time to regrow the root system. During this period, do not give any fertilizer. Keep everything simple and maintain adequate moisture in the medium and maintain good air circulation . Your plant should be ok by spring.

Hi Danni. Wow, you finally got it. Your clay pot and seramis are suitable for it. I use inorganic medium for all my Chinese cymbidiums and I never have any problem with it. This types of orchid are also know as the four seasons orchid in Chinese. It can bloom continuously throughout the year. I have the same exact plant and It blooms from March to September each year (By the way, I live in New York ). I know you will love it . Have fun and enjoy it.

Hi Danni, I am wanting to get a bellina. But I have been getting confused with all the different types of bellina. It's seems the pure bellina run around 50 dollars while some hybrids run for a lot more or a lot less. I'm getting really confused with all the different names. It's hard to make a decision as to which bellina to buy. Do you have any suggestions that will help me decide what to get?

The Chinese cymbidium that you have is a medium size. I have some that are five times smaller than yours (in term of size) . No joke!!!
