In the U.P. there are three universities (Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech, and Northern Michigan University) and four or five community colleges. While no city in the U.P. has a population greater than 20, 000, the larger ones (Marquette, Sault Saint Marie, Escanaba, Menomonie, etc.) have plenty of shopping, professional and medical services, etc.
