What is the BEST HYBRID Camera in 2024!? ...and before I get rolled in the comments, I know many would not consider the ZV-E1 a hybrid camera because of its 12mp sensor. Yet, I have taken thousands of pictures with the ZV-E1 and I think its an underrated device for photography, and its one of the best video cameras on the market. However, does its video quality make up for its low megapixels? Is the A7Cii, which is a far superior photography camera, missing some key features to make it a reliable video camera? Are all hybrid shooters split 50/50 video to photo!?

Just bought the Zve1 for 1400 dollars and I’m beyond happy with it. No over heat on my daily use so far. 10/10. I already own a a7c so if I ever need the more high quality pictures, … I will use my a7c.

I have had my ZV-E1 for over a year now and I have been able to capture amazing videos and photos! No regrets at all ! If in the future Sony release another Hybrid Camera that has the Low Light and Dynamic Active Stabilisation capabilities of the ZV-E1 I would be sold !

Holy smokes, that slow-mo shot of you running with the pool toy was WAY worth watching the video for lol. Secondly was that 2000 ISO vs. 2000 ISO test! I've seen what a higher res sensor can do with making noise finer in video, but this side by side really goes far to sell it over that stiff competition. I still miss my a7C mark 1 still, and have a soft spot for the "C" cameras. For me, all day the a7CII. It's still the only camera that would have me go back to full frame! I have no idea what lens you're bringing, but have a killer trip man. This video was great, as usual! Watching that Ermia video now, this guy is a solid cinematographer 👀.

I also ended up selling the a7cii and took advantage of a great deal on the ZVE1 when it was on sale. The skin tones captured by the ZVE1 are significantly better, reducing the need for extensive adjustments to greens and oranges compared to the A7CII. Additionally, I found myself spending excessive time denoising A7Cii images and footages, stabilizing them, and constantly facing storage challenges. With the ZVE1, there is remarkable flexibility that allows me to capture moments whenever and wherever I desire.

Nice skin on that! I have a similar dilemma - I upgraded from the a7iii to an a7RV and love it, but for some reason I recently got an a6700 and I’m not sure why!😆. Not sure I should really keep it, they’re actually quite similar but I like the option of doing 61mpx.

wow a 25-minute Masterpiece! I Knew you would keep the a7cii - just a great camera for both photo and video!!! My guess for a travel lens is ... 1) a fixed lens 2) 24mm just awesome content!

First, the online hate for the S9 will not settle down - it’s just a crappy camera. Second, glad you decided to keep the A7Cii. It is the better all-rounder and perfect for travel. Also, one feature you failed to mention that the A7Cii has that the ZV-E1 does not is Flexible Exposure Mode! If you are constantly switching between stills and video, it makes a HUGE difference. I would argue that feature is more important than Dynamic Active Stabilization. Lastly, I shoot almost exclusively in 1080p on my A7Cii and the footage looks great! The only caveat (which I don’t think you mentioned) is that HD 120p is only 8-bit so best to not shoot in SLOG3 when in that mode. Really enjoyed this video - and appreciate the time you took to make it. Have a great trip!!

Well I have been changing my setup and honestly could not justify having both an a7CR and a ZV-E1. As amazing as the ZV-E1 is, the a7CR does everything I need and especially since I added the Osmo Pocket 3 which honestly is plenty for my run and gun video needs outside of a studio situation. Just returned the ZV-E1. Loved the video Brian!

Hey Brian, last year I struggle a lot to choose between the 2 and finally picked up the A7CII, but now a year later... whats my feedback ? I choosed the A7CII for the 33MP so I can crop a lot in the video to get different types of shot and video reframing without losing quality BUT The big big downside is the stab. Really...
Now one year later, Im starting to looking again for the zv-e1. I definitely miss the dynamic stab and the recording red light... 4K120 ? not really, yeah i am into "quality image" but come one, who can tell the difference between HD120 and 4K120 on Youtube. I also thought I would use the A7CII for 4K streaming without overheating but again.... who gives a fuck about streaming in 4K. Nice light, nice lense and the zv e1 can handle a streaming without problem.
I would love to see the same video shot side to side from a7cII and zve1 and crop into the image at 50-100 and 150% to see the quality difference. And I also cant find the information about rain and zv e1, does the internal mic can be sensitive to rain ? I mean on the A7CII there is just a hot shoe so no issues. see you !

Finally, omg...You didn't disappoint! This was an incredibly GREAT comparison. I'm always thinking about the a7c2 versus the zv-e1 because I actually thinking of picking up one or the other this winter when I travel to the US. I think the ZV-E1 suits me more since I have the a74. I also loved my A7s3 so much, so the ZV is for me. I guess since you have the Fx3, maybe the ZV-E1 is a bit redundant for you, so your choice makes sense. If I didn't have the A74, your comparison definitely sold me on the A7c2! Super great video! Please give us more, more consistently. I always say how your production value is TOP TIER!

Contrary to popular belief, the ZV-E1/A7Siii/FX3/FX6 isn't actually cleaner if you use the second base ISO unless the shutter speed and aperture make that good lighting. Yeah, it's cleaner, IF you can use aperture or shutter priority mode or use an ND filter. It's a lot cleaner just using the camera at the ISO that makes your exposure correct.
