Gamespot reviews always make me mad because they tend to go something like "This game is amazing and I recommend it to anyone who is even the slightest bit interested! 5.0/10"

It sucks that some of the more exciting characters are just re-skinned versions of other characters - for example.

 Venom - Spider-Man.
 Big Venom - Hulk
 Carnage - Venom - Spider-Man.
 Thing - Colossus etc.   That is the only problem with the game.

So far, I love what the newer lego games have been doing lately. Like adding actual dialogue for characters rather then those mumbles. I may get this somewhere along the road. Good review Kevin.

I think it does. Hear me out: he always used words like "good" and "fun" to describe aspects of the game, but never "great", "awesome", "brilliant" etc. A score of 7 equals "good" on their scoring chart.

The mistake is assuming he works backwards from a score of 10, removing points for problems. Clearly he feels that the gameplay feels good, nothing more and nothing less, so the score makes sense.

It's all about the words used to describe the game, and here I felt they reflected the score.

Gamespot needs to stop giving numbers at the end of their reviews.  It's not that I disagree with their scores; I really don't care about them.  But they make a mess of the comments section.

The 10 point scales are especially problematic.  A huge chunk of the audience are grade school kids and young adults who can't break away from comparing a 7 to a C- in school.  Even if they could, it doesn't matter.  It feels like most of the comments on any given gamespot video are crying about the number.  Most of the dislikes come from disagreeing with that number.

It's the least important part of the review, since it's trying to be an arbitrary representation of overall quality for what are very complex forms of media.  It tells me nothing, and that's why I personally ignore them.  But clearly much of the audience feels so passionately about them that they're willing to dislike other gamespot videos because they didn't like the score for CoD or GTA.

Sure, you're never going to please a portion of the gaming population, but I'd at least like to see them disagree and debate over actual points made in the videos, rather than, "this review sux i give this game 9".  It's a discussion as empty as the scores themselves.

TL;DR: Drop the scores; they're doing you and us no favors.

A problem I've personally had with every Lego game is that, for me, they become way too repetitive way too fast.

my 5 year old son is getting this for Christmas.  can't wait to play it with him.  (We also have Lego Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones, Batman II)  They are perfect games for kids that adults can have fun playing with them.

I agree with the score a 7 is a good score for this game but this review didn't point out everything wrong with the game from the way he talked about the game I thought he would have given it a 9. The few things he said was wrong with the game were minor so why did he give it a 7?

If five is average in a game score. Then anything above that is considered better than average. You can still love a game yet realise that it does not deserve a near-perfect score.

Technically it might be an "uncountable noun" like news or information. You don't have "a news" or "an information" you have "a news story" or "a piece of information". Just like you have "a brick of lego" or "a lego stud".
