This hits so different after watching the Queen Charlotte show that just came out on Netflix. Heartbreaking.

I found this scene so sad. You can see in the scene the Queen just trying to not upset the King so he can stay present but just one question and it all goes away. So Sad! I feel sorry for the Queen but even more for the servants who had to attend to The King in his final years.

The hope that filled her eyes when he addressed her regularly. I felt it when she told him "I've missed you." Especially after watching Queen Charlotte

It’s a heartbreaking scene and I want so badly for them to take the modern strategy with dementia patients to just simply agree with everything. “Amelia is fine, your majesty. She’s visiting a friend and will return tomorrow.”

Some background information...

Princess Amelia (called Emily by her family) was the youngest child of George and Charlotte who died at 27. Her death was one of the final nails in George's descent into permanent madness.

After she died he would cry "in a wild, monotonous, delirious way, 'Oh Emily, why won't you save your father? I hate all the physicians..."

He also had delusions that Amelia was alive and living in Hanover with a large family of her own where she would "never grow older and always be well." 😕

I thought she was mean and did not have the time for her husband when these scenes were in Bridgerton. Whenever anyone mentioned the King she would always ask if he was dead, just like the start of Queen Charlotte. But Queen Charlotte shows how strong and accepting she was of him. She rather him be the way he was, instead of tortured.

I just watch the preview for the Queen and King George. I'm already in love with this couple. It's sad already knowing their ending. But I still can't wait to see how their love progresses.

This one hits hard especially after watching the prequel Charlotte: The Bridgerton Story.

I can't imagine how difficult must have been for her. Not only did she have to recall Amelia's death but then for her own husband to accuse her that she killed their own child during his fit of madness. That shit undoubtedly broke her heart. :/

Bless her she never deserted him, worried about him from the age of 17 till her death 60 odd years later.
They must have had quite a few years happy. They managed to create 15 children.

How sad ... she doesn't know from one moment to the next if he is "there" and mentally present. So she gives a formal greeting, and when he addresses her by his pet name for her she knows she's speaking to her husband ... until he mentions their daughter who passed away. Tragic. One moment he knows her and then the next he's back to madness. Heartbreaking for her and likely something that happens often.

We don't know what George III's 'madness' actually was so it's all up to interpretation, we had an idea around the time of 'The Madness of King George' but turns out there are holes in that theory. Sometimes I think it's a bit unfair to classify his 'madness' here as dementia but I suppose they didn't really know what that was back then so I guess it also makes sense that they misdiagnosed it as madness if it had happened.

I like that we are going to get the back story of their courtship in season 3. I hope it also shows the deterioration of the king’s mental health over time…it will give this scene more context…

The prequel just makes this scene so much sadder

The fact most people go through this every day with their loved ones who are mentally ill is so heartbreaking.
