Long story short. He cheaped out and regret it. Talks nothing about the car

Just purchased the Model Y Performance. Love the looks, ride, Red Color. The car came with Michelin "All Weather" Performance Tires. The tires are rated at 40, 000 miles. Not worried about wearing them out before 30, 000 miles. Also, the lesser range vs. the long range is not a worry. There is now a Tesla Wall Mounted Charger now mounted in the garage for charging when needed, + we have solar power. Love the "new" Tesla. 😊

I live in snow country on a steep road. I also use my car to go skiing every week. The 21" wheels and performance tires wouldn't make it up my street in a snow storm. I am aware you can buy winter wheels and tires, but it's a major hassle to swap them out and store which ever set you aren't using. Also, you lose a little clearance with the Performance model.
These are the reasons I went with the Long Range model with 19" wheels. It actually works great in snow and is plenty fast.

Big wheels = worse ride more expensive tires more often. Performance suspension & breaks way overkill for 95% of drivers. I purchased Long range with performance $2K upgrade with my choice custom black 19” wheels. Sold stock wheels to pay for new wheels. No loss of range or ride still plenty of speed. 2 years 57K miles Blue white interior ❤️

I traded a 2020 LR AWD on a 2022 MYP, but replaced the 21" UT with some 18s from TSportLine, so I recovered most of the range, its actually FASTER, rides better, I can rotate the tires and they are cheaper than even the 19s. And I no longer fear potholes and curbs.

The 21" wheels are heavier, but the range difference is caused almost entirely by the performance tires. Also the Performance Y has larger rear tires so you can't rotate them.

Robert, listening to you, I changed and switched to the performance. I don’t want to regret anything. Thank you, bro. Hopefully it will not takes longer for delivery

I purchased a 2020 model 3LR back in October from Tesla’s used inventory. Looked for one with low mileage and trims I wanted. Paid 49k and couldn’t be happier. Tesla threw in acceleration boost, FSD beta and upgraded charge pad for phone. Got the red with 19” wheels.

I've driven the Long range and the Performance. Yes, the Performance is faster but to me, it felt like exactly the same car to drive. I personally went for the long range cause I just didn't think the difference was worth the extra money. Currently, here in the UK, the Performance is a lot more expensive

I just rewatched the video and I'm still not sure what the 5 mistakes are. Usually, your videos are a little more organized. You wished you'd bought the Performance rather than the Long Range (1). You bought too many accessories (2. but you don't mention what they are). You wish you had applied PPF earlier (3). You wish you had delayed your purchase a couple of months to get a few more features (4).

Of those, I disagree with all of them except #3. You don't have to drive on California highways to pick up a bunch of scratches on the front end. I live in Ohio, bought my Model Y in August of 2020 and noticed the scratches after 6-12 months. One thing that hasn't been publicized much is how thin Tesla's paint is. YOU NEED TO APPLY PPF SOON AFTER YOUR PURCHASE. And I'm not a car afficionado. I just wanted an American-made, low-maintenance, nice looking car that could quickly accelerate to interstate speeds and didn't directly burn carbon to do it.

I'm satisfied with the Long Range model. I've got a daughter that lives in Washington, DC and a son that lives in Madison, WI. I'd recommend that anyone who makes trips longer than 200 miles at least once per year (especially if you occasionally have to do it in cold weather), to buy all the range you can afford. There are always going to be new Tesla developments and Tesla price changes. Do your best to identify any major opportunities and then buy the car and get on with life.

I don't know what accessories you bought, but I'm satisfied with the one's I purchased. I got improved floor mats to do a better job collecting dirt and gravel from shoes. I got a center console organizer because Tesla provided nothing. I bought brighter LED lights because the standard lights are pretty weak at night. I also bought the hitch attachment because I do a lot of bike riding. I still may buy a mat for the back storage area to catch leakage from mulch bags.

I've got about 18, 000 miles on mine and plan to put many more on it. Hope you enjoy yours for many years to come.

I really thought about the long range, then it came to me; how many times a year do I go on a longbutt road trips? And the answer is once or twice, so I bought the performance. The best thing about the performance model that I love the most is the prude force available immediately, I mean immediately, like right now. Even if you’re not trying to show off, it’ll just take off at every stoplight, even if you don’t mean it. So anyone buying a model Y get the performance package you won’t be disappointed.

I bought the 2023 Model Y long range in February, and things that were not apparent when I made the purchase were: (1) that Tesla pricing fluctuate so much; (2) that the "needed" accessories cost a lot; (3) that certain bugs have yet to be solved by Tesla such as phantom braking; (4) that certain States and locales are outright anti-EV, and show it by discouraging EV charging stations ; yet, are enthusiastic when it comes to EV's being revenue sources.

Suspension is much harsher on performance model.
I have m3p and wish i had bought on long range 😅

Couple things to chime in. $51, 990 is standard range AWD model and the range is NOT the only thing that’s different. $51, 990 AWD has unibody gigacasting and structural battery that gives the car reduced cabin noise and firmer, more buttoned down ride quality than Long Range. Now I do agree that if you are on the fence between LR and P, just go with P. Because when it’s time to change the tires on P, its actually cheaper to get second-hand 19” gemini wheels, tires, TPMS than tires on the uberturbine wheels. If you are okay with the looks, you get the best of both worlds: same mileage as Long Range, but same acceleration as P. DO NOT get the acceleration, that’s a waste of money, just get yourself the P

The performance model is basically only worth it if you value speed and looks (subjective) over anything else. It has less range. It has a lot worse ride quality. All while costing more.
You and I clearly prioritize very differently :D

Thx 4 the vid, my biggest prob w/21’s is this town is full O potholes (omg) so much that I had 2 spend my 1st $900 stimulus check on fixing my Limited Elantra because it has low profile tires vs these dang potholes:( it tore up my front end, plus alignment plus new tires, not a happy camper, sooo if I get a Tesla M3LR (hope) I need 18” wheels n tires, just compare how much more it cost to fiix with those beautiful 21’s…peace

About the 20” wheels, you should also mention it reduces ride comfort as the tires are lower profile.

M Y Performance also has staggered wheels. So having tire tread even longevity after x miles will decrease, since a rotation from left to right is minimal in equaling the meat of all tires over time. If all tires were equal, moving rear to front and vice versa makes the meat of the tires more even. Also alternatively with M Y Long Range AWD: Left rear goes to right front. Right rear goes to the left front. The right front goes to left rear. Left front goes to the right rear. Again more options to even out tire meat usage on a rotation with an AWD Long Range. End of the day, tire wear will last longer as long as you keep up the rotations every 7K-8K miles. Finally another point is that you also lose the 7 seater option which gives the Long Range AWD flexibility for long road trips with friends and you have a bumpier ride since Performance has sport suspensions (At least from what I'm reading from new customer test drives on both). Reading on forums from customers who've test drove both says they can feel every crack and bump on the road on a 23 Performance model and driving a 23 Long Range feels like driving on a cloud. So it looks like all 23 Long Range Ys have the new comfort suspensions based on what I'm reading. IMO.

Still got my 2019 Model 3 Performance, white interior, XPEL Ultimate full frontal wrap as well as wrapped the piano black interior console with that stuff so it can’t scratch or scuff. Also have FSD ($5000 back then). Love it! Car is a freakin missile. Just crazy. And the Michelin 4S stock tires it got are the absolute best. Will keep this thing for a while … have a cyber on order. Let’s see what happens.

Lol- thanks for validating my decision to get a MYP 😂
When the prices dropped, I’m pretty sure it was the cheapest it had ever been. So I’ve been patting myself on the back for the good timing. Hopefully I won’t be regretting that decision when March 1st rolls around!
