A Day in the Life - Surgical PA Student on Clinical Rotations (General Surgery Vlog)

MOST COMMON SUTURING TECHNIQUE IN GENERAL SURGERY: Buried interrupted & the interrupted subcuticular stitch. I forgot to add the word "AND". I apologize for any confusion.

This video is a VLOG of my experience in my General Surgery Clinical Rotation. I am a current physician assistant student in my second year of PA school out on my surgery rotation. I never had an experience in the operating room prior to this rotation. I was a complete beginner. Through out my surgery rotation, I worked with surgeons, residents, surgical PAs, medical school students, and PA students.

It was overall a great experience. I enjoyed general surgery more than I anticipated. I am still undecided of what specialty I will choose.... who knows, maybe I will become a surgical PA?!

wow. i’m a junior in high school who genuinely has no interest for anything medical, but for some reason i love watching the lifestyle of one😂 it seems so time consuming and intricate. you should definitely be proud of all you accomplish because genuinely you guys are amazing and idk how you do it, but keep doing it! much love🥰🥰🥰

I want to be a Anesthesiologist sooo badly. I’ve been working so hard and have been studying, grinding, cramming, and packing my days full of learning. What I’ve been learning is incredible and facilitating and something that I would dedicate my life too without hesitation. I’m only In high school but I’ve wanted to become a doctor for 5 years and I get more passionate about it with everyday! This is what I want my life to be like! I don’t care how much I have to sacrifice to go to med school or how long it could take me to get I to a desirable school. There is a part of me that is really terrified what will happen because parts of me doubt my intelligence and if I’ll ever get there but another part of me is extremely exited! I will never ever give up my dreams on becoming a doctor! I can’t wait when I can dedicate my life to my passion and fascination! No matter how many punches life throws at me ( even if sometimes they feel like gun shots ) I will never give up on my dream.

Wonder how many teens decided to study medicine due to Greys anatomy and then got disappointed by how blunt reality really is. 😝
(Edit 1 year later: Can’t believe this comment got 1.300 likes!! There’s too many of you out there, ain’t that right? 😅)

I love watching videos like this for 2 main reasons. 1: I wanted to be a trauma surgeon all through elementary school and 6th grade. 2: This past year now I’ve constantly been in and out of hospitals due to severe scoliosis. I had my spinal fusion surgery in January, a week and a half before I turned 13. I love getting to see the other side of the spectrum where I can see the experiences of all kinds of doctors or people who will be doctors. It’s so interesting to me seeing as they are the people that quite possibly saved my life. You’re video was so entertaining as well as informative and I genuinely loved watching it

I am in nursing school rn but I would like to be a PA. However I seem to not have enough belief in myself to actually achieve this. You are such a example! Love to see your hard work pay off👏🏾.

So much respect for medics doing night shifts. It’s so hard staying up all night

When I had surgery I saw the pa quite and she was awesome and after all the years on not having surgery I ran into her at hobby lobby and she remembered me after all the years that went bye I loved her she is still down to earth and caring.

I'm so scared even though I'm nowhere near college/pa school but at the same time, I'm really excited that I can do this one day!!

It worries me how all of the medical students and even doctors on youtube (and other social media) always describe how tired they are and how much caffeine they need... being chronically tired is worse than being drunk for decision making.
