Learn how to play Runnin' Down a Dream, as performed by Tom Petty and Mike Campbell released on his huge 1988 Full Moon Fever Album. Like so much Tom Petty and Mike Campbell material, this does not disappoint. The guitar arrangements here are to die for.

It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I got a notification, Doug posted another lesson
Tunes went by, me and my PRS were singing little Runaway
I was flyin’

Yeah, runnin’ down a dream!

So stoked to learn this solo. Thanks for breaking it down into 7 parts. Will make it so much easier to learn.

Mike Campbell is a unison bend monster. Every guitarist has that in their toolbox, but he appears to have specialized in that technique.

An epic song - a Tom Petty rock classic. The intro riff always reminded me of Tony Iommi /Sabbath style riff. Mike Campbell was an animal on this! The song structure is quite simple BUT it is all about attitude. Good lesson. Congrats on the 100k subscribers - keep up the good work.

Great lesson for this epic solo. Really enjoy watching your video lessons, even for songs I already know how to play because a) you cover all the little details I'm too lazy to figure out myself, and b) I just really enjoy and appreciate your presentation and you obvious love and enthusiasm for the songs and the guitar playing, which I share.

First proper band I was ever in (we actually had a bass player and microphones and a PA and sang) way back in high school, we played the song "Restless" from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "You're Gonna Get It" album. I brought it in and taught the other guitar player the parts and and everybody the vocal harmonies. So basically Petty has been there from ground zero in my life as a musician.

Great song. Roughly learned it several times and forgot it again. Time to learn it properly from the maestro.

Great lesson! I'm glad you reinforced the ringing E's and B's with the rhythm part. I didn't notice this until I heard the live Filmore version that came out last year. The rhythm part is really dry on 3rds. Power all the way.

Incredible tones and playing! I’ve heard that Campbell used his Rickenbacker 350 for the intro riff and Petty his Firebird for the solo?
