Hey dude, great video! I daily drive my 981 gt4 here in England. We have some pretty bad roads and plenty of traffic. Used to daily an rs6 performance and I much prefer the gt4 now, definitely slower but so much more engaging, still feels like a treat on every journey. Your m3 looks amazing btw.

Hey Tommy, I agree with your comments regarding the GT4. I daily a F80 M3 and my weekend car is a 981 GT4. The GT4 is a great car but the 911 991.2 would make a better daily. It is more similar to the M3, more practical and softer than the GT4.

I recently drove a 992 Carrera S and it too is similar to the M3 but better in every way! It didn’t tempt me away from the GT4 however.

To be honest, you won’t go wrong with the 911 or GT4. The GT4 will put a bigger smile on your face and has a greater sense of occasion, the 911 will be a better all rounder but a little less special in my opinion.

Keep in mind the GT4 you can mod too, suspension is fully adjustable, remaps, headers, exhaust, GT3 throttle body and IPD plenum etc to name a

All the best Tommy and good luck with the careful contemplation 😀 Interested to see where you end up!

Thought I had the wrong channel for a minute, with the classical intro music 🙂

I’ve been following your page for a while and you’ve been a big inspiration for me. Just bought my 981 GT4 and waiting for it to ship from Illinois. Got rid of my 2017 F80 DCT two months ago that had a ton of track time. As much as I loved my F80 on the track, it always felt a little big. Even with the big power, it was very difficult to keep up with the 981 and 718 GT4’s. I had the AP BBK, Ohlins RT, Recaro sportsterAnd a ton more. I can’t wait to hit NJMP in my GT4 next season and see how it compares. I can’t lie, I’ve got really really high expectations 😅

Hi Tommy, as said, it’s a fun car to drive but really going to be rough for a daily driver...I have driven cars with harsh clutches and believe me it is grief when you hit traffic...
For me that car would never be a daily driver, F80 is ideal but GT4 for tracking and occasional weekend splurges ..then go for it..

I have considered selling my f80 for a Porsche. I primarily do roll races and compete a couple times a year in fairly serious roll racing events. The F80 is such a great car for roll racing, especially compared to other sedans because of its low weight I’m having a hard time parting ways with it. The power to weight ratio along with its huge power band make it rewarding to drive fast. I’m grappling with selling it and getting something different I just have the feeling I’ll miss the car. It’s happened to me before with my e46 M3, 3000gt Vr4 etc... sellers remorse. The F80 manuals will retain their value since the new M3 is 400lbs heavier and has controversial looks.

Great video Tommy. Goodluck with the search. I think the m3 is more an all round car while the gt4 is a track/fun vehicle

Beautiful car. I was thorn between the GT4 vs M2C.
At the end I decided to go with the M2C, similar performance for less $$$ and better for daily duties.
But I agree with you... GT4 definitely looks more special!!!

I sold my manual f80 for a manual 981s and love the Porsche. Mine has all the sport/gts options. Both were daily drivers and the Cayman with x73 sport suspension is actually pretty compliant. I prefer the ride quality over the f80 which I felt was quite harsh. Cayman is way better on track as well.

I think the sweet spot for you is the 991.2 carrera T though if you have the funds. You can put the kids in the back, the engine has good torque.. all the standard “sport” options and the sporttex sport plus seats are great. Tune and high flow cats really wake those cars up too.

The new 718 gts is gonna be a great all around car as well if you don’t need back seats.

I went from an E90 M3, to an M2C, to now owning a GT4 and G20 330i. Obviously as all rounders the M cars cannot be beaten, however that means they don't excel in any area. The GT4 has so much more character, feeling and theatre than the M2C. The M2C has been by far my least favorite car of the three, just too numb to be engaging and doesn't feel special. The E9x M3 gives you a lot of the same emotion, but with a very different chassis. Guys who appreciate the tech and torque of the f8x platform probably won't enjoy the GT4 as much. The GT4 handles very differently on track, but is equally as rewarding as a well setup M car. Based on the way you use your car I think you would prefer a 911 (roof rack, kids can sit in the back, 4WD for winter). However if your thinking of replacing the M3 with 2 cars, a more cooking daily and something special the GT4 definitely fits the bill.

Track use: GT4 > F80
Daily use: F80 > GT4
Potential modifcations: F80 > GT4
DIY Capabilities: F80 > GT4

Value wise: Porsche GT cars do not lose much value. Cost of ownership is minimal.

Also, the newer Porsche models come with a reverse camera lol.

In a perfect world, owning BOTH would be ideal :)

My buddy has a 981 GT4. First of all, the sound is orgasmic. Had to get that out of the way.

Secondly, you can’t really daily it. The clutch is ULTRA heavy and the seats (918 seats) aren’t practical. Getting in an out never gets easy.

Sense of occasion - GT4 is INSANE. Amazing. The transmission is unbelievably good - you did notice that yourself.
Daily? M3 no doubt. Properly modded would make a good track tool.

PS: coincidently we were both at the track driving today and he test drove my M2C (somewhat similar to M3...) and he was positively impressed. He did say the GT4 has much better steering, though (both electric steering).

I’d always take the 981 GT4 over a 718 GT4.

I would definitely go for the gt4 but it's no daily driver. Buy it and buy a beater to daily.

Tommy! You should get in touch with Rick DeMan from DeMan Motorsport in Nyack. He builds Porsche race cars and has recently released a 4.5L motor for the GT4. 500 wheel horsepower! Would be cool to do a review!

Not to mention how little depreciation the GT4 will have compared to the massive depreciation of an F80. But, back seats and 4-doors definitely serves a purpose.

Gt4 is awesome and special for sure. Love porsche for its analog feel and focus on driving. Not speed, just a driver.
community is great as well. But my m4 is perfect daily driver, it's just hard to let go. Try Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio before making your decision. Steering feel is phenomenal. Much better than M3 and Porsches. 👍
