I'm sure Brian Clough said he'd prefer the league title as well at one point because it tests every aspect of management

It just so unpredictable.. u can win champions League even when your club is in average form domestically, but to always compete for the league every year is something else. Plus winning the league built the champion mentality..once u have that it all about maintaining domination.

Pep has accomplished his task, brought in to change the culture of Man City from a team which nobody was talking about in Europe to one that expects to win every game they play. They are always the favorites, they play the best football (IMO), the whole club is now built to dominate.

The results can go any way as this is football, no team has the divine right to win trophies hence big clubs like Madrid, Bayern, Liverpool, Man Utd would all be winning the Champions League every year. City may not be dominating Europe, but they are currently dominating the European Champions in Chelsea and their rivals in United. If Pep wins the CL with City there won't be much to write about anymore. But that would be boring wouldn't it?

Tbh the league is a marker of how good a team is. As it tests Ur consistency. Champions League is still the most prestigious tho

I think the PL and CL are hard in their own ways, PL tests your consistency over 9 months, but CL pits you against higher calibre opponents

You can see what he’s saying. That City are such a new team to winning trophies that they shouldn’t expect UCL this fast. CL games are very different to PL. He’s after consistency and u can’t get that in the CL.

PL is definitely harder as you need a crazy amount of consistency but CL has more prestige.
Just like CL is harder to win Than the world cup but WC has more prestige

He's all honest yea, through the years I see him enjoying winning against small teams with big results and also winning the league will easily grant you to qualify the champions league every season.

Both are so prestigious but so vastly different competitions. League is like a long stretch of consistency and club management whereas UCL is a the best against the best knockout of heavyweight teams who play different football e.g. Liverpool's fast pace football vs Barcelona's possession based technical football

Pep is smart
He really wants to win it but he doesn't want his players to feel the pressure

Well, I think four years on and losing in the final last year and the semifinal in 2020 probably changed Pep's thinking, at least a little bit. Now that the team has gotten that far two seasons in a row should motivate him to win it.

League is obviously much more challenging given that you need to demonstrate consistent performances over the entirety of the season and take your chances when others slip up. CL really only gets going in the R16 and as we know, the draw greatly determines who gets to the final. At that point it's a one off and anything can happen

That was a smart and wise Decision because to win premier League there must be consistency and Where there's consistency is simply means the potential to win Uefa Champions League.

Chelsea won their first UCL by parking the bus. They were by no means the best team in the world at that time. Same case with Greece when they won their Euros. Cup competitions are compelling to watch, but doesn't show how consistent a team is.

personally think league, fa cup and champions league should be held in the same regard

A lot of you are missing the point here. He's saying the prem is more important because it means that if youre competing for it, you're always at your best for a long period of time. Look at the insane runs Ma City have gone on. Sure, Chelsea won the UCL last season, but now theyre completely struggling for consistent form.

How many times did Fergie win the UCL with Utd? Not many times, yet people respect his legacy and Utd teams.

Champions league can't be planned for and anything can happen, the UCL winner does not equal best team in europe.

Ofc he’s gonna say that. If he’d won 5 CL and no premier leagues, he’d be saying that the CL is more important

They are there. First, They found it hard to reach the quarter then semis and then final. They did it and Now it's all about winning it.
