The hospital one is nuts. I would walk right on it thinking it’s a floor and fall.
The one with the Tadpoles is the safe one because the tadpoles wouldn’t be there if there was brain eating amoeba.

The tadpole one is such comforting.
An abandoned place that still has beautiful life flourishing from it

The Hospital one looked like it was completely still and undisrupted for decades. There were probably entire civilizations of bacteria, protozoa and mold living there with highly advanced mega cities and complex structures...

Then suddenly a giant appeared on their sky and hurled a meteor at them, creating a massive impact and huge tsunamis all across their land, which almost wiped them all out. From then on, the survivors worship the giant deity and offer him sacrifices to avoid this happening again.

I never realized just how many videogame protagonists would be dead purely from stagnant water.

It's not just brain eating amoeba in the water. Parasites, bacteria, microorganisms and plenty more harmful things can be in that water. The cleanest of the water in this video would be the one with tadpoles. Granted some of the things that effect humans are still in there but there're no parasites (that we know of in there) that have proven harmful to the ecosystem

Someone in my family once fell into still water and almost drowned in it, didn't got any brain eating amoeba but water got into his lungs. He lives but he's basically a vegetable now. Water was infested with parasites and pollution, it is miracle he's still alive.

The hospital one feels like if you step into it you start taking poison damage

Ah yes, opaque bodies of water in abandoned liminal spaces hiding fear of the unknown within. My favorite.

I've always been a little creeped out at the idea that some water gets stuck, and never gets back into the weather cycle. A plastic bottle in a landfill that won't break-down in a century is one thing, these are terrifying.

a wise man once said,

"had a brain eating amoeba once, poor fella died of hungry"

Brain eating amoeba is one of the less concerning things about stagnant water. Other microorganisms are much more common.

actually i believe that tadpole water should be pretty safe, there was a study done that tested if frogs went to clean water, or if they cleaned water, and apparently something on their skin actually kills or deters a lot of harmful bacteria :3
it shouldnt be too hard to find with a quick googling session for those who are curious

Some of these locations make me wonder two things.

1. Are there any bodies in them? Still water in abandoned places seems like the perfect body dumping sight given you just sink them and they stay in murky water no one wants to mess with.

2. If the amount of buildup from the water is an indication of failing city utilities. Certainly the roof of these places has holes but there ought to be drains in basements and pools. I suppose they can just be plugged from debris.

Just FYI: if you see anything like this in Florida or Louisiana just assume there’s a gator or a croc in it and a few outgrown snakes like mocassins, boa, pythons, cottonmouth etc bc there most definitely is and they’d probably enjoy something bigger than a sewer rat or nutria.
