National Anthem Arab Republic of Egypt: Bilady, Bilady, Bilady
Показать описание
The national anthem of Egypt is called "Bilādī, laki ḥubbī wa fuʾādī", also known by its incipit as "Bilady, Bilady, Bilady". The English translation of the title is "My homeland, you have my love and my heart"².
The anthem was composed by Sayed Darwish and written by Muhammad Yunis al-Qadi. It was officially adopted in 1979². The anthem consists of three verses, but only the first verse is commonly sung, being both preceded and followed by the chorus².
The lyrics were inspired by one of the most famous speeches of Mustafa Kamel, a pioneer of Egypt's national fight for independence³. The first Egyptian national song was actually a royal anthem written to commemorate the pharaoh in 1869³. After the 1979 peace treaty with Israel, Egypt's national song shifted its focus to peace².
Sayed Darwish, a forerunner in Arabic music and a figurehead in Egypt's contemporary renaissance at the turn of the 20th century, was responsible for the score². As the republic of Egypt was established, the song's popularity skyrocketed, and many Egyptians began to consider it the country's unofficial national anthem².
