FIX This Kohler XT-650 on a Lawn-Boy Lawn Mower

preview_player
Показать описание
Easy fix for a fuel leak on a Lawn-Boy lawn mower with a Kohler XT-650 engine, including a spectacular oil change, blade sharpen, spark plug replacement, and air filter. Same process for XT-675 engines on other mowers like Toro, Craftsman, Husqvarna, Poulan, and many others.

Tune-up parts for this mower:

00:00 I'm not Ken
00:45 Carburetor bowl check
02:16 Spark plug replacement
04:49 Lubricate control cables
05:43 BP worthy oil spill
06:44 Blade removal and drive check
10:04 Replace blade
11:23 Engine oil refill
12:31 The money shot

The tools I like and use most often:

Wear your safety glasses, or you'll shoot your eye out. Try on some gloves. Take off that spark plug boot. Clean your room. Open the windows, those fumes are nasty. Just 'cause I do it, don't think it's the end all, be all solution. There's plenty more ideas out there, I can't take responsibility if you slice off a few fingers after watching my videos. And don't just pour that toxic stuff down the sewer or in the ditch, dispose of waste responsibly. Just be safe, OK?

I really like it when the things that go wrong aren't edited from the video. Sometimes things go wrong and it happens to all of us that work with small engine repair. Thanks for another great video.

Dear LML, Life is full of frustrations. Many of which, you can't avoid but having an oil extractor is one sure way to make all your working days brighter and better ...worked for me anyway ! In fact, I got 2, one for oil and the other for stale fuel. Regards !

Nice, precisely done. Part numbers for the spark, and air filter is a welcome bonus

Hi Stella. We’ve all been there with messy oil changes. 🤦‍♀️ Tough to avoid on that engine. Great video.

Fill...Tape a soda straw to the side of your funnel.. Have one end even with the bottom of the funnel; the other even with the top of the 'pipe' of the funnel. This will allow air to vent from the crankcase via the straw
as oil is added via the funnel.
Drain... leave oil cap/dipstick in place until you have mower tilted and positioned over drain pan. Now remove cap/dipstick as you would on an automobile. Hope this helps.

I sure wish engine manufacturers hadn't done away with the oil drain plug. I have one of those hand operated suction pumps. It works ok. They just don't last long. My 'business' is mostly friends or friends of friends so buying an air operated evacuator isn't cost effective. As usual, good tutorial Stella.

Great video Stella - if you are in the market for a vacuum oil suction thing - get the one that's shop air operated - it is soooo much better than the manuel operated one.

I have a Kohler engine that leaks from the sump gasket and I couldn't find the gasket for it.

I've never had ANY problems getting parts for my lawnboy. Same engine kohler xtx650. All 3 of my local hardware stores have them and very easy to find online.

That engine is missing the oil filler tube. See how the top has a cut out? There should be a long plastic tube extending top the top of the engine. And just an FYI a while new carburetor is only 75 cents more than a rebuild kit. Literally 2 bolts and a couple hoses.
