Land Rover Discovery 4 - Should you buy one?

We’ve owned this discovery 4 for 6 years and 65,000 miles.

How has it been over that time?

Are you thinking of getting one?

Do you have access to a 2 post lift?

Go in with your eyes open

Apart from the fuel costs (27mpg) put aside £1500-2000 a year for workshop bills

If you’re mechanically minded, snd you have a decent jack and acle stands, you can get on with brakes, and basic servicing without smy problem. Get the workshop to do suspension arms, engine related issues. Oh, and at some point the crankshaft might snap, wrecking the engine. Othereise Its s great unit, and a great car..,,

If you have a 2 post lift, these ageing LR cars (L319, L332 and L405) might just be a bargain and a great hobby.

Land Rover, turning owners into mechanics for 50 years 😝

Would I recommend? Yes, but buy one which has been looked after and prepare to spend money keeping it on the road. It’s a big heavy car and it wears the wear items faster than most. Awesome traction in all conditions and go-anywhere tech.

The Ferrari of off-roaders, and I’m not even joking.

I used to own a Series 1 red 106 Rallye, back in the late 90s. It was a great little car

Sorry tale, i sold it to my sister and she forgot to tax it so the local council towed it away and crushed it…😢

I still dream about that car….registration M184 BLB
