The Research Is In! Support Students AND Teachers

Показать описание
AH! I wish I had a PA system in my car so I could just drive around and shout these things on the streets!
I don't know what purpose that would ultimately serve, but maybe I'd feel better shouting at the world.
Social Emotional Learning has to do with ALL the needs outside of academic that are ABSOLUTELY necessary for students TO LEARN!
Students don't just sit in their seat and listen. Nope. They have to be explicitly taught how to actively listen, to build stamina for sitting for longer periods of time.
Students aren't able to just work with a partner. They have to learn how to answer questions independently, how to greet and start a conversation, how to stay on-task when talking to another student, how to speak AND listen, how to show respect, how to handle disagreement, how to manage their own emotions... Yes, all to work with a partner.
This and SO MUCH MORE falls under the umbrella of Social and Emotional skills that students NEED for success in school and in life.
If an adult cannot sit and actively listen, how will they make it through college or training courses? How will they handle business meetings in their job? They won't. This starts in Kindergarten! (Correction: This starts at 2, 3 years old AT HOME!)
If an adult cannot have a respectful and productive conversation with a partner (in a professional or personal setting), will they be successful professional or personally? No, they won't. This learning starts FROM THE BEGINNING with the support and guidance from adults in their lives.
More than that, if we are going to make the school a space for students to learn social and emotional skills, we HAVE to make sure we are doing the same for teachers.
THE RESEARCH SHOWS IT! All of the things researched here go hand-in-hand to support students AND teachers!
This is how you increase academic success.
This is how you increase school and district success.
Y'all... SCIENCE SAYS SO!
Take care of your students! Take care of your teachers!
