BW Stevenson was from Oak Cliff section of Dallas, TX, not Canada. He attended Oak Cliff High School at that same time as Michael Martin Murphy and Ray Wylie Hubbard, also great musicians. He died young at the age of 38 from complications and infection following heart surgery.

As a point of correction, B.W. was a Texan not a Canadian.  Born I Dallas Texas often wrote about Texas.  I'm a very long-time fan and as you may know he passed in 1988.  A fantastic writer a singer.

Thanks for clearing up that lick for me! Much appreciated. One of the first records I ever bought (BWS version) and I still love this song.

Are you saying BW Stephens or Stephenson?  BW Stephenson wrote the song. Oh by the way... he was born in Texas. A bit south of Canada.

B.W. wasn't his real name it stood for Buckwheet which was his nickname and yeah he was from Dallas Texas originally but played the club scene around Austin after he got out of the air force. My Maria wasn't his only hit, Shambala was a hit too.

B. W. Stevenson (October 5, 1949 – April 28, 1988), born Louis Charles Stevenson, was an American country pop singer and musician, working in a genre now called progressive country. "B.W." stood for "Buckwheat". Stevenson was born in Dallas,  Texas, and attended W. H. Adamson High School with such other future noted musicians as Michael Martin Murphey,  Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Larry Groce.

Get your facts straight my man. "Buckwheat" or B.W. Stevenson was born in Dallas, Texas. He died on April 28, 1988, in Nashville, Tennessee following heart valve surgery. He developed a staph infection. I never read a bad thing about B.W. Stevenson. Everybody loved him. "Poor David's Pub" in Dallas has an annual B.W. Stevenson songwriting competition event. How cool is that. Lastly, I play Stevenson's tune, "My Maria" constantly on my guitar. I'm not criticizing the version by "Brooks & Dunn" ... but B.W. Stevenson's version was FAR BETTER! R.I.P. B.W. Stevenson. Peace

Hey, You made a couple mistakes in your analysis. The biggest one is A, C# & E is an A Major triad, not A minor. A minor is A, C, E.
