I plastic weld all the time with a soldering iron. In my experience, the best results are achieved when you use the same type of plastic as the filler.

You can buy a kit to do this from most autobody/collision repair suppliers, it also comes with different types of plastic rods for different plastics 👍 we were actually having a hard time getting decent strength from the welds bet that mesh method makes it work perfect 👌
Also, SUPER IMPORTANT, those fumes are incredibly toxic, wear a respirator if your going to do this.

I use to do this as a kid in the 90s with a butter-knife and a stove. Kept many things going longer.

I have always had a SNEAKING suspicion that plastic could be easily melted together like this but never really tried or investigated, this is brilliant!

When I worked for IBM's refer department I never used aluminum tape or screens to do repairs on plastic cases. I just used a regular tip hot iron and if I needed any plastic to hold the pieces in place after repair a lot of times your cases because they were molded to create them would have extra pieces I could cut off and used to do the repair. After I was done usually you couldn't tell the problems or damage which there but if I needed to I would lightly sand the area and spray paint it and then use a small paintbrush

Tried the first method (with a zip tie) on a plastic piece that had broken off of one of our refrigerator drawers...and it was a sizable piece that was part of one of the sides that rode along the groove to hold the drawer in place, so it had to be a strong weld. And it worked, thank you!

Back in the day, we would have plastic welders come home and do this with their tools. Glad to see the Morden version of it here 👍🏼

I just bought a new lawn mower and noticed a crack on a part of the handle after I assembled and tore up box. Won’t affect anything 2:22 but it’s new and cracked. I did an online chat and they said I can return it. 20 minutes later they text me that for my inconvenience they are giving me a 10% discount. I then looked up how to repair plastic. This is so easy. So now I don’t have go through the hassle of returning, this will fix the problem. Thanks

Used this method years ago to repair a crack in my kayak.
Never leaked a drop after the repair.

Very good demonstration. However Two details . One that specific nibs or tips for solder are available and those are better for performing such tasks . Two . specific plastic shold be used and unmatched plastics donot stick and then chip off . These must be kept in mind .

Did this welding when I was a child. Back then I didn't have much and repair was definitely needed to keep my stuff usable.

Thank you so much for this video, I have a plastic bird feeder that is no longer made and the tray was cracked in several places, I used this method to seal the cracks and it is as good as new. I wouldn't have bothered but it is the birds favorite feeder and now they can continue to use it. Such a simple low cost method, thanks for sharing :)

Excellent methods for me to keep in mind. Great video! Another method if you don’t have access to a soldering iron is to make a composite patch using super glue and baking soda.

Good idea. When I was young, I used my woodburner similarly. I like this technique more.

Typically yes that plastic repair with similar material is recommended. I really just like to heat the metal until it melts in. There's strength and quick fix for the metal version... in my opinion.
