I have not understood its importance but now it is really easy for me to understand chemistry.

I didn't learned whole Periodic Table sequencely but Group wise and sequence wise (till 3rd period) for S and P and for d block and f block period wise as well as group wise both So sequence doesn't matter unless You can Easily locate The location its atomic number and period number Exactly!!!

I think learning through s, p, d, f format is more good but your choice if you want to mug it up.
In short schools should teach through s, p, d, f format early but they never do that.
