Stretching? Lunges? Squats? Deadlifts? Are there exercises that should be avoided with proximal hamstring tendinopathy? This video discusses why there aren't absolute exercises to be avoided but a graded exposure approach can be used to build up tolerance of the tendon to various movements and exercises.

What activity are you most limited by because of proximal hamstring tendinopathy?

Most of the reliable commentators, such as yourself, are in agreement on the general guidelines for the rehabilitation of proximal hamstring tendinopathy. I think the problem for the athlete who has suffered a PHT & is now looking to start a rehabilitation program in order to return to his/her sport, is the ill-defined & vague term "gradually" - as in: "increase the load on the tendon gradually". In trying to rehab my own PHT, I found it difficult to juggle increasing the load, increasing the reps, deciding on how many days/week to do the exercises, etc.. The vagueness of the recommendations lead to a lot of "yo-yo" attempts at managing the rehab - especially for the athlete who is trying to manage the rehab without the direct assistance of a physiotherapist. Much of the frustration with this condition stems from this consideration, in my opinion.

Great advice. The pinching analogy makes a lot of sense

Unique cause. 20 years ago; Anestisioulogist was checking my response to pain after a spinal before knee surgery. One test was to stretch my leg far beyond what I am able to do. When spinal wore off; hamstrings got my attention. Not my knee. Fortunately ; recovering from my knee also recovered my hamstring. But; Never fully. I continued playing handball with a great knee and a bad hamstring. I always thought it would get better. It only felt ok when I got sick with the common cold or anything that made me do absolutely nothing. So, now; my mri shows partial tears of all three hamstring muscles. I cant play handball. Im thinking of that plasma injection. Has anyone here had that?

Hi Michael, quick question but I’m sure a complex answer. How are you able to isolate with your patience whether they have PHT or Ischial Bursitis? Given how close the Ischial bursa is with the proximal hamstring tendon, as well as the similarities in symptoms, it’s seems difficult to distinguish the two. The whole idea with PHT PT is to slowly but surely increase loads on the tendon to reduce sensitivity and pain. Does the same logic apply to ischial bursitis? Are you trying to add exercises that repair and increase load tolerance on the bursa or is the treatment different? Just curious what your thoughts were. Thanks again.

Ok, good information. Perhaps slow down your speed . And keep your hands still. It’s a bit distracting.
