I like to.imagine they are actualy hired by a shadow goverment to do hanious deeds to take over the world, but all they do is cast silly spells like summon bannanas beacyse they are hungry and just by sheer coincidence tasks given to them solve themself?

I.e told to kill a town of villagers for not paying tribute, they turn up and they just stand in the street casting bannanas and dancing to hip hop beats, then come back tomorow and everyone died of the plauge
