Its not crazy. It just cuts circulation around that which makes ur veins pump. If you want veins, work out instead of showing the two smallest veins on ur wrist.

The reason it works is because there are arteries below the veins that bring blood to the hand from the heart and the veins take it and send it back to the heart but since you're blocking it blood just stays there and more comes in because you can't stop the arteries so yeah not the healthiest thing :)

This does show the veins now lets break down why that happens. 1. He squeezes his arm causing the blood to be pushed through his wrist and arms causing the veins to grow larger 2. He opens and closes his hand to let more blood flow in that area. (This only lasts for a small amount of time)
