But why? In this video, Dr. Derek Cooper, managing director of Thomas Institutes, gives 7 reasons. Filmed on location. #Capernaum #HolyLand #IsraelTour #Jesus #JesusChrist #SaintPeter #Bible #Gospels

Fulfilment of the prophecy, choice of Peter, James and John, and travel connectivity are my first three options

Practical reasons was that the sea was an abundant source of fish, protein, and the disciples could still make a living fishing, in fact throughout the gospels they were often out fishing, this paid for trips to Jerusalem and entrance fees and offerings to the Temple. The surrounding farmlands were an abundance of olives, fruits, dates and grains. More towns could be reached by simply crossing over the sea without going through other towns that were hostile to Yeshua's message. The disciples families lived close by and the disciples being young men, most were teenagers, their parents nearby could keep them updated and cared for and supplies were at hand to make longer trips to Jerusalem and other far places. Yeshua would have travelled in a caravan of disciples and followers and families, especially at festival times that occurred multiple times of the year.
