I never knew this about PINE CONES...

Pine Cones are everywhere in the Sierra Nevada foothills where we live. We use them in our wood stoves as kindling, but I've never really stopped to think about what they really are, what their purpose is or why they're so dang sharp. Today, I learned more than any one person should about the common Pine Cone. Turns out they're actually very interesting.

Our channel is amazing. It's true because I wrote this statement and I also make the videos. The channel is all about ditching the comforts of home for adventure, travel, outdoors, and life lived in whatever way suites you best. We (my wife and 3 kids) sold everything we owned a while back to travel full-time in a small travel trailer. After that we moved back into a regular home to find more adventures in new ways.

I have never given much thought to a pine cone except to use them as a fire starter and worrying they
might fall on my head during a windy day. Very educational. Great
Information!

I noticed this, when I put open pine cones into my aquarium. After a couple of days, they absorbed the water, closed, and sank. Never knew that before 😊🌲🍦

Many trees have seeds that have wings. Maples do too!

Thank you. Interesting to watch. We just visited Tallahassee and my 6 year old picked up a fallen pine cone and it was completely open, about an hour later of driving, he notice part of pine cone was closed and I honestly did not know the reason why so we went researching and found this video. We enjoyed it. Now we both know why. Lol

When they are still full of seed you can throw them into areas where the ground is bare. You will spread pine seed all over the place as the cone flys through the air. If you give the cones plenty of arc you can plant a small forest just by chucking a few cones.

Does anybody ever realize that pine trees are the only trees that stay green during the winter time The pine tree is so underestimated not appreciated I realized that as a little boy I just came to share that since nobody talks about it

Also, you can make a very tasty and healthy syrup out of them if you harvest the young red-ish cones, it's something that's done only in parts of Romania from what I know, the syrup can help with sore throats and colds being high in vitamin C.

You can actually eat this when it is still on the trees and gets a red/brown color. You will need to remove them from the cone and put all in a pot with water, boil it for 30 min or so. You can do in the instant pot as well.

Pinecones were held in the hands of a lot of ancient carvings. They represent the pineal gland A.K.A. 3rd eye

heres some interesting facts about pinecones that ive only recently found out, if you hold it pointy side up and count the spirals going to the left there will be 8 then if you count the spirals going right there will be 13 then if you count two of the rows starting from the bottom when you reach the middle stem on top youll be at 21, so just like most other things in nature the fibonacci sequence is visible, it blew my mind when i figured this
