An interesting change in artistic direction in this episode is how the Underworld is portrayed. Instead of barren rolling deserts like in the tv show, the book depicts a damp, wet, cavernous place with bioluminescent plants. Of course, showing us an overcrowded place filled with plants that don't exist would've been very difficult for a tv show, so the change in direction makes sense, and the desert imagery fits the idea of an afterlife well. One thing of note is that in Greek Mythology, the Underworld houses all the dead, not just the damned. It wasn't relevant here so they didn't go into it, but the Underworld includes separate places for the dead based on their actions in life, similar to Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell, though there are a few more that sort the dead more specifically. Oh, and in the books, Hades says he doesn't want war because of the overpopulation problem. His kingdom isn't ready for a sudden influx of people.

17:15 So Percy is more weakened by the fact that he is in the Underworld, which is Hades's dominium, but he actually has a lot of sources for his own powers there, as most rivers (especially the big ones from Myths) meet in the Underworld. Like River Styx, even if deadly and polluted by the dead - it's still a working water source.

The two titans Cronos & Rhea birthed the six original Greek Gods. These Gods were Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Hestia, Demeter. Most of the other Gods Goddesses were children to Zeus and another deity. The six most referenced are Athena, Hephaestos, Ares, Artemis, Apollo and Hermes.
