I´ve been playing this game on and off for almost two years now. You need to have friends to play it with though. Grouping up with randoms is really bad and they mostly try to ruin everything just for fun. Playing solo is extremely hard, but doable. Having friends to play this game with is your best option. There is a lot of fun to be had while playing with your friends.

Everything I've read about the game makes the case that playing single player is pretty miserable and that grouping up with randoms tend to lead to griefers. A shame, it looks pretty neat from what I've seen.
