In our latest Elder Scrolls video we explore why a power fantasy is not always the best idea and how elder scrolls 6 could implement power fantasies in a satisfying way.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series and was released worldwide on November 11, 2011. The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim.

I always like to point out the difference between Mage guild in Oblivion and Skyrim. By the time you are Archmage in Skyrim, you probably don't even have access to Arcane University in Oblivion. In Oblivion, you actually have to prove yourself first in every faction. I want more of that in TES6.

The one thing I really hated about Skyrim is that many dungeons were locked off until you progressed in certain factions. This was such a role-killer. If you wanted to be a warrior that collected every Shout you had to roll with mages, thieves and assassins. I hope they fix that next game.

Skyrim's faction quests definitely suffered from the removal of skill checks. I liked how previous games required you to meet a certain skill threshold to advance. That needs to come back.

I am absolutely fine with power fantasy. I just want the game to make me work for it. I want to feel like I actually earned it. I became Harbinger of the Companions so quickly that I felt like barely an ingame day passed.

I want dialog and quest choices that actually matter. I want to role play as a legit bandit, bard, shape-shifter, druid, or monk. I want unarmed and unarmored skills to return. I want alcohol and skooma to matter.

Also one of my fears... I want the Elder Scrolls 6 to feel new and fresh from Skyrim and other newer games but still be an Elder Scrolls game at heart.

I hope they bring back levitation spells, potions, and scrolls. Also stats, spell making, and unarmed. I miss flying across morrowind's map with scrolls of Windform.

I just want the guilds to be at their highest point. Skyrim's guilds were kind of lame because most of the guilds were in a state of decline.

The Elder Scrolls 6 will be a great opportunity to re-release TES V: Skyrim.

Arena: Chosen hero defeats Jagar Tharn
Daggerfall: Just some bloke Uriel asked to deliver a letter
Morrowind: Chosen reincarnation of an ancient hero
Oblivion: Just a guy asked to deliver a necklace
Skyrim: Chosen hero to defeat the end of time

With this pattern, I can predict that Elder Scrolls 6 will start with us delivering something to someone far more important.

The long journey in the mages guild in oblivion was the best part, it felt like a pilgrimage. Moving through the world and learning as you went was really immersive as far as gameplay went.
