Stop calling quadcopters Drones!

Показать описание
Hello, I'm Sal! I think we have to determine precisely what drones are and aren't before things get too out of hand and one thing gets confused for another. I discuss *radio controlled* quadcopters (not autonomously controlled ones) and what it could mean for the future of the entire RC hobby if people continue to misunderstand the differences between the two. I also briefly touch on the fact that the ability for aerial footage can exist on any RC model, not just quadcopters. (In fact Google has aerial footage and ground footage of practically the entire country)
**NOTE** The quadcopters I discuss in this video are FULLY operated by direct radio control. None of these quadcopters perform in an "autonomous", self-flying fashion that relies on AI and GPS systems as drones are known to do. In the case of a malfunction, the direct radio control quadcopters will simply turn off and drop, where as quadcopters ran by autonomous systems, like the DJI phantom, can go haywire and fly away, or into objects.
The likely culprit:
Autonomously controlled, underpowered DJI Phantoms are earning the nickname "Drone" for all quadcopters and multirotors alike. These quadcopters and ones like it give a false sense of security to the *novices* of this hobby. This is why there are so many videos of white DJI-style drones crashing into stuff.
Please feel free to ask any questions about any of the quadcopters you see during this video in the meantime :)
The part of the video where I accelerate very quickly into the air was taken by a go pro session on my ImmersionRC Vortex (racing quad not for beginners)
