Russia displays Western tanks captured in Ukraine as 'trophies of the Russian Army'

Moscow rung in the May Day holiday this Wednesday by inviting locals to the opening of an exhibit that features Western tanks and military hardware captured in Ukraine by the Russian army during the countries’ ongoing war.
The showcase, known as ‘Trophies of the Russian Army,’ is being held outside of a museum that celebrates the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in 1945. According to a statement by the Russian Defence Ministry, it is intended to reassure the Russian population that Western aid will not help Ukraine win the war.
"Strength is in the truth. It's always been that way. In 1943 and today. These war trophies reflect our strength. The more of them there are, the stronger we are," the statement reads. "No Western military equipment will change the situation on the battlefield.”
Despite it being a regular working day, long queues of locals turned up to the exhibit on Thursday too to show their support for their troops. “I feel very proud for our guys who are going through this tough battle with dignity. They protect us so that the people in the rear feel safe,” one visitor said.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and has amassed tens of thousands of casualties since then. Its army continues to attack much of its neighbouring country’s core infrastructure.
