Much More Than Just 'That Crazy Guy' From The Eagles

Most people will know Joe Walsh as being a member of the Eagles, most notably because of his antics. But before that, he was a member of the James Gang and Barnstorm, besides also having a solo career. Even if you take away his music with the Eagles, he has made so much great stuff, and doesn't get enough credit for his guitar playing. That's why in this episode of 'Most Underrated Guitars Players' I will make my case why Joe should rank much higher on everyone's lists.

My Dad graduated from high school with Joe (Montclair High Class of '65), so I grew up hearing about him and hearing every album. He and my Dad were both new kids in school. He did a song about their 25th reunion on one album. Great artist. Good stuff!

He is one of my all time favorites. Thanks for bringing him to attention. I grew up in Ohio, listening to James Gang.

Hey there, great vid dude ! That old footage of Joe is awesome and to a point you’re right Joe needs more love from the guitar community in general. His old stuff from the James Gang is my fav and his chops and playing were incredible, listen to the song Stop for some killer pentatonic lessons …❤️😎👍

I've loved Joe Walsh ever since I first heard his greatest hits album (on cassette, in the eighties) called Rocky Mountain way. Every song on their is excellent. Since then I checked out more of his solo stuff. James Gang stuff and Barnstorm stuff. Outstanding. I agree 100% that he's stupidly underappreciated overall. People who love him love him, but it seems most people don't really know about much if anything of his stuff outside the Eagles (I hate the Eagles).
A casual scan through the titles of his albums (and a great many song titles) should let anyone know he's a quirky weirdo who doesn't take himself too seriously.
Example of album title: You Bought It, You Name It.
But yes, the material is singular and original and charming and great.
I remember my girlfriend at the time (when I was a kid) and the lady she babysat for, drunk, dancing around to "I Like Big Tits." Boi-oi-oi-oing. (For those who don't know, that's just a sound that repeats throughout the song. I'm not being perverted, lol)

thx for this! I always loved '...the player you get' and 'songs for a dying planet'. pity, whenever he gets a guest appearance in a show or concert, he always has to play 'funk#49' ;-)

Walsh wasted his time with the Eagles. He was much too talented to be a supporting member of the Eagles. I feel that he would have put out at least one more great solo album during that time period when he was at his creative peak. Glenn Frey and Don Henley suppressed him and even though he was an addict at the time he still kept it together enough to make great music.
