There is also a Beryl AX which is somewhat different. The first thing that I noticed on the AX is the missing Micro SD slot.

Having used the GL Inet AR300M for years for both work and travel, I'd caution against using the GL Inet firmware and just use vanilla OpenWRT. I'm not saying that a Chinese company is doing anything untoward with your data (I'm not smart enough to figure that out) but the performance is much better using OpenWRT. Only downside is OpenWRT is not as user friendly to configure the router.

Great comprehensive review. I have installed a Cat5e network in my house in the UK and have tested Openwrt fast roaming (802.11r) using several Raspberry Pis on the wired network. I now wish to replace the Raspberry Pis with some dedicated hardware. The gl.inet gl-mt1300 (beryl) looks a very good candidate. Is fast roaming (802, 11r) available when using the LUCI interface? or does the inbuilt wifi access mode doe the same thing?

Have the GL-SFT1200, looks similar. Want to be able to install different firmware on it. Haven't seen support for Openwrt or dwwrt.

can you connect a switch at the physical LAN port and have more clients utilizing VPN that the gl-inet has dialed into? can that be a workaround of vpn provider's number-of-device-limit restrictions? since in this case, technically, it's just one device that's dialing-in over vpn which is the glinet

I have an older version. I find it handy to use the same SSIDs and logins for this device to make it easier in a hotel when connecting my phone, iPad or Mac. I also configure the LAN IP range to match my home range, so I can configure RasPi devices while in the hotel room, and have them ready when I get home. I run AdGuard on the RasPi in the hotel. The old version does not have 5G or USB3.

Great informative video, thank you! I have a question regarding the VPN: I would like to set up a HTTP Proxy and connect it to a VPN. I read that it’s possible with the gl.inet but I would like to have different IP addresses for different phones connected to the router.

My questions are:
1) will it be possible to switch the IPs without a big hustle in-between connecting the phones?
2) do you think social media platforms like TikTok should be able to detect that it’s a VPN or will it be safe since the VPN isn’t on the actual mobile device but on a router?
I hope you can share your thoughts on these-would appreciate it a lot 🙏🙏

My router don't have the "Static IP address binding" option in Lan IP.

You should enable the button setting if you are using a VPN, because it allows you the router to automatically startup the vpn client if you have the Beryl setup to auto reboot. I have my vpn routers, to include the Beryl, set to auto reboot while I'm alseep.

What are you plugging the router into? I do not get internet when I plug the router into my computer and it is not picking up my wireless connection either.

Have you found a solution for ...WIREGUARD with mullvad VPN once you set up or added the MULLVAD wire guard clinet there is no way to add the USA servers as they are too far down they list and they are not listed on the Gl. Inet options . How to add them ? any ideas?

Hey I wasn’t able to find any US servers using mullvad wire guard. Under management within client wire guard I only see 212 servers. Let me know what I should be doing?
