How to Convert Your Defender Load Space 12V Outlet to Constant Power

In this video, we demonstrate how to bypass the relay in your Defender 110, 90 and 130 L663, ensuring a constant 12V power supply to the rear load space socket. This is essential if you're planning to run a fridge or any other Overland equipment. In addition to maintaining continuous power in the back, we'll walk you through our method using fusible links, which allows you to adjust the amperage as necessary.

This is a great hack for camping and keeping power to the the back plug. Any problems with draining the battery that you noticed?

I'm a +1 if you decide to make the jumper cable available.

Great solution, thanks for the simple explanation! So removing the relay doesn't trigger any warnings or electrical issues? And obviously, since this is being powered by your starter battery, one would use this with caution. I'm headed to Utah and Colorado later this week, so I plan to make the modification right away, and I can see it as being handy for those shorter stops where you don't want your fridge to cut-off but not necessarily run it all night, and risk a flat starter battery?!

I see this works for the round power / accessory socket on the drivers side, but what about the 110 outlet (like the house plug) on the passenger side by the fusebox? Does this work for that as well?

I will take two. How about making the 110 power "hot" all the time?

It’s another example of how Land Rover doesn’t think about who is using a Defender and why.

I thought they made a relay switch that is jumper already, but I might be wrong.

I’ve heard stories of flat batteries from people overlanding. Wouldn’t this add to the problem?

Sorry I dont mean to be negative, but why would you want to do this and risk a flat battery. Most fridges run at 5amps which will leave you very little time before your battery is flat. It already gets very low just opening and closing the doors a few times when parked.
Rather do it properly and add an aux battery or if you dont want to do that, carry a battery pack that is able to be recharged from the cigarette lighter when the motor is running.
