Kakigori is so good. There’s an incredible place in Nashville called Locust that makes it and it’s the best approximation of the real Japanese stuff I’ve had in the states.

You need to try raiwanese shaved ice where the ice itself is flavored and cut like a ribbon ti create a soft velvety texture that still holds in your mouth unlike bingsoo

it's cool seeing the ones from other countries but as someone who grew up on the islands i don't think anything can beat hawaiin shave ice 😁

I had recently traveled to Korea and Japan and tried Bing Su and Kakigori. I got the red bean flavor from Sul Bing and blue raspberry from a random place that I forgot the name of but I like Bing Su better than Kakigori. The Bing Su had a lump of red bean paste atop shaved ice and had a dash of condensed milk along some Nurungji. The Kakigori was great too but I felt like the regular blue raspberry flavor lacked the creativity of the Bing Su I had. It could be the places that I had went to. That is my take on the shave ice battle. (I haven't tried Hawaiian shaved ice yet)

Im most interested in the Japanese one! The other two look great but I feel like ive had something similar to then before. Im really interested in how the Japanese one adult-ifies the dish.

“It’s everything you’d expect from shaved ice. Smooth, elegant, doesn’t taste like it came from a re-tort pouch”

I’m just gonna assume Japan, I lived there for 6 years, and hot take, I like their curry more, I know I know, that’s blasphemous, but try it, and you’ll get it. Specifically CoCos curry, god I love that place.
